New Study Shows AI Bone Age Analysis Matches Expert Radiologist Accuracy

RAD Sherpa is proud to announce the results of a comprehensive clinical validation study demonstrating that our AI-powered bone age analysis system achieves accuracy levels comparable to expert pediatric radiologists.

The study, conducted across multiple healthcare institutions, evaluated over 5,000 pediatric hand X-rays. The AI system was tested against assessments from board-certified pediatric radiologists with an average of 15+ years of experience.

Key Findings

The results showed remarkable concordance between the AI system and expert radiologists:

  • Mean absolute difference of less than 4 months compared to expert consensus
  • 97.3% of AI assessments fell within clinically acceptable ranges
  • Processing time reduced from average 3-5 minutes to under 30 seconds per case
  • Consistent performance across diverse patient populations

Clinical Implications

"This study validates what we've observed in clinical practice," said Dr. Pradeep Albert, Founder and CMO of RAD Sherpa. "Our AI system provides radiologists with a reliable second opinion while dramatically reducing assessment time, allowing them to focus on complex cases that require their expertise."

The bone age assessment tool uses advanced deep learning algorithms trained on hundreds of thousands of annotated pediatric hand radiographs. It provides not only a bone age estimate but also highlights key anatomical landmarks used in the assessment, enhancing transparency and trust in the AI's recommendations.

Availability

RAD Sherpa's bone age AI solution is currently available in over 89 countries and has been used to analyze more than 500,000 pediatric studies to date.
